Connect Mercado Pago

Take card payments in installments and PIX through your Mercado Pago account, in seven Latin American countries.

Mercado Pago processes credit cards, debit cards and PIX (Brazil's instant payment) for accounts opened in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay. Connected to Vipter, it handles one-time sales, card installments and order bumps.

No subscriptions and no one-click upsells

Subscriptions and one-click upsells charge the saved card without the buyer present, and the Mercado Pago connection does not make that kind of charge. If you sell subscriptions, also connect another card provider, such as Pagar.me or Asaas, and send the recurring charges to it in the payment flows.

Before you start

  • A Mercado Pago account and an application created in Suas integrações (Your integrations), on the Mercado Pago Developers portal. The keys live inside the application.
  • The Admin or Owner role in the Vipter project.
  • Room in your plan for one more active connection. The providers screen shows how many you already use.

Step 1: copy the credentials in Mercado Pago

Vipter accepts two ways to authenticate: the Access Token with the Public Key, or the application's Client ID with its Client Secret. If you are not sure which one to use, choose the Access Token.

  1. In Mercado Pago Developers, open Suas integrações (Your integrations) and go into your application.
  2. Open ProduçãoCredenciais de produção (Production › Production credentials) to sell, or TestesCredenciais de teste (Tests › Test credentials) to try things out.
  3. Copy the Access Token and the Public Key.

Keep the credentials safe

The Access Token and the Client Secret let anyone create charges on your account. Paste these values only into Vipter. If they leak, renew the credentials in Mercado Pago and replace them in Vipter with the Replace keys button.

Step 2: create the connection in Vipter

  1. In the Vipter dashboard, open PaymentsProvidersMercado Pago.
  2. Click New connection. If the store has no Mercado Pago account yet, the form is already open.
  3. In Authentication method, choose Dashboard token or OAuth (application), the same method as in step 1.
  4. Fill in the numbered fields:

  1. Click Save and get the webhook URL. Vipter checks the credentials with Mercado Pago before saving. If they are wrong, nothing is saved and the error shows on the form.

Test mode starts on

The Test connection switch starts on so a first connection never charges anyone by mistake. To sell, create the connection with it off and the production credentials.

If the store has no flow yet for credit card, debit card or PIX, Vipter creates those flows pointing to the new account. The store can charge right after step 4.

Step 3: set up notifications in Mercado Pago

Through the webhook, Mercado Pago tells Vipter what happens to each payment: PIX paid, payment approved after review, refunds and chargebacks. Each notice comes signed with a secret signature that Mercado Pago generates for your application.

  1. After saving, the connection card shows the Webhook URL. Copy it.
  2. In Mercado Pago Developers, open Suas integrações (Your integrations), go into the same application as in step 1 and go to WebhooksConfigurar notificações (Webhooks › Configure notifications).
  3. Choose the tab for the connection's environment: the test tab for a test connection, or Modo produtivo (Production mode) to sell.
  4. Paste the URL you copied in item 1.
  5. Under events, select Pagamentos (Payments). It is the only event Vipter uses.
  6. Save. Mercado Pago generates the application's secret signature. Reveal and copy the value.
  7. Back in Vipter, paste the signature on the connection card and click Save secret.

If you renew the signature

Mercado Pago lets you renew the secret signature. After renewing, paste the new value into Vipter and click Save secret again. While the two values differ, the notices are rejected.

Step 4: test the connection

  1. On the connection card, click Test. Vipter calls Mercado Pago with the saved credentials.
  2. Make a test purchase on an offer's checkout. With test credentials from a Brazilian account, use the Visa card 4235 6477 2802 5682, expiration 11/30 and CVV 123. For the cardholder name, type APRO so the payment is approved, and use the CPF (Brazilian individual taxpayer ID) 123.456.789-09.

It worked if

You see the message Connection OK., the card shows Verification secret configured. and the test purchase appears in SalesTransactions as paid.

Common problems

  • Your plan allows N active connector(s). Upgrade to add more.

    Your plan reached its limit of active connections. Deactivate a connection you no longer use or change plans in Vipter plan.

  • Pick a country this provider serves.

    Mercado Pago is only accepted in the seven countries on the list. Choose the country where the account was opened.

  • Mercado Pago rejected the credentials

    The credentials belong to another application, are incomplete or do not match the country you picked. Also check that the Access Token and the Public Key came from the same environment (test or production) and that the authentication method chosen in Vipter matches the credentials.

  • Without the verification secret the platform rejects this provider's events. Register the URL above at the provider, copy the secret and save it here.

    The secret signature was not saved in Vipter. Go through step 3 again.

What to do next

  • Set how many installments the store offers and with what interest in installments.
  • Review the payment flows to decide which account charges each payment and which one is the fallback.
