Connect Stripe

Take card payments through your Stripe account, with subscriptions, order bumps and one-click upsells.

Stripe processes credit and debit cards in dozens of currencies. Connected to Vipter, it handles one-time sales, subscriptions, order bumps and one-click upsells. Stripe does not do PIX or installments: for those, also connect Pagar.me, Mercado Pago or Asaas.

Before you start

A Stripe account activated to accept payments. To try things first, Stripe's test mode works.
The Admin or Owner role in the Vipter project.
Room in your plan for one more active connection. The providers screen shows how many you already use.

Step 1: copy the secret key in Stripe

Sign in to the Stripe Dashboard and check at the top which environment you are in: test mode is for trying things out, the live account is for selling.
Open DevelopersAPI keys. The direct address is dashboard.stripe.com/apikeys.
On the Secret key row, click Reveal and copy the value. It starts with sk_live_ on the live account and with sk_test_ in test mode.

Keep the key safe

The secret key gives full access to your Stripe account. Paste it only into Vipter and never send it by e-mail or chat. If it leaks, create a new one in Stripe and replace it in Vipter with the Replace keys button.

Step 2: create the connection in Vipter

In the Vipter dashboard, open PaymentsProvidersStripe.
Click New connection. If the store has no Stripe account yet, the form is already open.
Fill in the numbered fields:

2	Account countryRequired	The country where the Stripe account was opened. It cannot be changed later.
3	Secret keyRequired · hidden once saved	The secret key you copied in step 1.
4	Test connectionOptional	When on, only test keys and test cards work (sk_test_). Turn it off to charge for real with the sk_live_ key.

Click Save and get the webhook URL. Vipter checks the key with Stripe before saving. If it is wrong, nothing is saved and the error shows on the form.

Test mode starts on

The Test connection switch starts on so a first connection never charges anyone by mistake. To sell, create the connection with it off and the sk_live_ key.

If this is the store's first card account, Vipter creates the credit card and debit card payment flows pointing to it on its own. The store can charge right after step 4.

Step 3: register the webhook in Stripe

Through the webhook, Stripe tells Vipter what happens after the purchase: refunds, disputes, captures and payments that ask for authentication. Without it, those events never reach the store.

After saving, the connection card shows the Webhook URL. Copy it.

In Stripe, open DevelopersWebhooks and click Add destination. In older dashboards the button is called Add endpoint.
Select every event in the Charge, Payment Intent and Refund groups.
Choose Webhook endpoint, paste the URL you copied in item 1 and save.
Open the destination you created and copy the Signing secret, which starts with whsec_.

Back in Vipter, paste the secret on the connection card and click Save secret.

Step 4: test the connection

On the connection card, click Test. Vipter calls Stripe with the saved key.
Make a test purchase on an offer's checkout. With test mode on, use card 4242 4242 4242 4242, any future date and any CVC.

It worked if

You see the message Connection OK., the card shows Verification secret configured. and the test purchase appears in SalesTransactions as paid.

Common problems

Your plan allows N active connector(s). Upgrade to add more.
Your plan reached its limit of active connections. Deactivate a connection you no longer use or change plans in Vipter plan.
Pick a country this provider serves.
Stripe does not serve the country you picked. Use the country where the Stripe account was opened.
Stripe rejected the key

The key is incomplete, belongs to another account, or is a test key with test mode off (or the other way around). Copy the secret key again, not the publishable one (pk_), and check the Test connection switch.
Without the verification secret the platform rejects this provider's events. Register the URL above at the provider, copy the secret and save it here.
The webhook was not registered or the secret was not saved. Go through step 3 again.

What to do next

If you sell in Brazil, connect a provider with PIX and installments, such as Pagar.me.
Review the flows in PaymentsPayment flows to decide which account charges each payment and which one is the fallback.
