Checkout languages and currencies
Which language buyers see the checkout, the thank-you page and the customer area in, when the language selector disappears and which currency the checkout opens in.
The checkout translates everything that comes from Vipter by itself: steps, fields, buttons, notices and error messages. What you write, such as the product name, the offer name and the descriptions, shows exactly as you entered it, in any language.
The 10 languages
The checkout, the thank-you page and the customer area speak the same languages. The code in the table is what goes in the link's ?lang= parameter.
| Language | Code |
|---|---|
| Portuguese | pt |
| English | en |
| Spanish | es |
| French | fr |
| German | de |
| Italian | it |
| Japanese | ja |
| Korean | ko |
| Russian | ru |
| Chinese | zh |
How the language is picked
When the store sells to several countries, Vipter uses the first item on this list that it finds:
- The link's language: the
?lang=parameter, such ashttps://pay.vipter.com/curso-fotografia?lang=en. - The buyer's earlier choice: the language they picked in the selector or got through a link with
?lang=. The browser remembers this choice for one year. - The browser's languages, in the order of preference the buyer set.
- The language of the buyer's country, detected from their location. In countries with more than one language, the one most used in commerce applies: Canada in English, Switzerland in German and Belgium in French.
- English, when nothing above gives one of the 10 languages.
The language selector is at the top of the checkout and the customer area. When the buyer switches, the page changes language right away and what they already typed stays filled in.

A store that sells to a single country
If Sell to has a single country, the checkout, the thank-you page and the customer area use that country's language and the selector disappears. A store that only sells to Brazil always shows in Portuguese, even to someone whose browser is in English.
Two exceptions:
- A link with
?lang=still opens in the requested language. Use this to send a link in another language to a specific buyer. - If the country's language isn't one of the 10, the rule doesn't apply: the language follows the order in the previous section and the selector shows.
The list of countries is in GeneralSettingsGeneral, in the Selling and shipping locations card. See Where you sell and ship.
The card fields
Number, expiry date and CVV are in secure fields, loaded separately from the rest of the page. These fields only exist in Portuguese and English: they show in Portuguese when the checkout is in Portuguese and in English in all other languages. The name on card and the rest of the page follow the checkout's language.
E-mails to the buyer
The e-mails the store sends, such as the order confirmation and the PIX code, go out in the language the buyer used for the purchase. You can edit each e-mail's text per language. See E-mails to buyers.
Currencies
The checkout only shows prices in currencies that some active connection in the store can accept. An offer priced in reais and in dollars, in a store that only accepts reais, shows in reais only.
The checkout opens in this currency:
- The link's currency (
?currency=USD), if the offer has a price in it. - The store's currency, if the offer has a price in it.
- The currency of the offer's default price.
With more than one currency available, the order summary shows the current currency and the link to switch. If the buyer switches currency on the payment step, the checkout goes back to the details step, with everything filled in, and they continue in the new currency.
The currency changes what the buyer can use:
- PIX (Brazil's instant payment) only shows in reais.
- Installments only show in reais. See Installments.
To sell in another currency, add the price to the offer. See Create an offer and Prices in several currencies.
Test
- Open an offer's link with
?lang=esand check that the checkout shows in Spanish. - Open the same link without the parameter in a private window. The checkout follows your browser's language.
- If the offer has more than one currency, open the link with
?currency=and each one's code.
Common problems
-
The language selector doesn't show
The store sells to a single country. This is expected: the checkout stays in that country's language. For another language, use
?lang=in the link. -
The checkout opened in a language the buyer didn't expect
The browser stored an earlier choice, made in the selector or through a link with
?lang=. The buyer picks the right language in the selector and the new choice takes effect. -
The offer has a price in dollars, but the checkout only shows reais
No active connection in the store accepts dollars. Check your connections' currencies in PaymentsProviders.
What to do next
- Build links with language and currency in Payment link and URL parameters.
- Put your brand on the checkout in Branding: logo, colors, titles and social preview.
Payment link and URL parameters
Understand the payment link format and build links with a pack, coupon, seller, language, currency, buyer details and UTMs.
Branding: logo, colors, titles and social preview
Put your store's logo, favicon and colors on the checkout, the thank-you page, the customer area and the e-mails, and set the preview that shows when the link is shared.
