Connect SendGrid

Send your store's e-mails through your Twilio SendGrid account, with your domain, and get each message's delivery status in Vipter.

With SendGrid connected, the order confirmation, the PIX awaiting payment notice (PIX is Brazil's instant payment method) and the store's other e-mails go out through your SendGrid account, with your name and your domain. Before you start, it helps to read how transactional e-mail works.

Before you start

  • A Twilio SendGrid account with admin access.
  • Access to the DNS of the domain that will send the e-mails, such as yourdomain.com.
  • The Admin or Owner role in the Vipter project.

Step 1: authenticate the domain in SendGrid

SendGrid only delivers well from an authenticated domain.

  1. In SendGrid, open SettingsSender Authentication and start domain authentication.
  2. Pick your DNS provider and enter the sender's domain.
  3. Create in your DNS the records SendGrid shows, then come back and click Verify. Propagation can take up to 48 hours.

What each record does is explained in verify the sending domain.

Step 2: create the API key

  1. Open SettingsAPI Keys and click Create API Key.
  2. Give it a name, such as Vipter, and choose restricted (custom) access.
  3. Give full access to Mail Send. For Vipter to also show whether the domain is verified, give read access to Sender Authentication.
  4. Create the key and copy the value, which starts with SG.. SendGrid shows the key only once.

Keep the key safe

This key can send e-mails on behalf of your store. Paste it only into Vipter. If it leaks, delete the key in SendGrid, create another one and paste it into Vipter.

Step 3: connect in Vipter

  1. In the Vipter dashboard, open GeneralIntegrationsE-mailSendGrid.
  2. Under Sender and credentials, fill in the numbered fields:

#FieldWhat to paste
1Sender nameOptionalThe name the buyer sees in the inbox, such as the store name. If blank, the project name is used.
2Sender e-mailRequiredAn address on the domain you authenticated in step 1, such as contact@yourdomain.com.
3Reply-toOptionalWhere the buyer's replies go. If blank, the project's support e-mail is used.
4API keyRequired · hidden once savedThe SG. key from step 2. Once saved, leave it blank to keep the current one.
5RegionRequiredLeave it on Global. Choose European Union only if the key belongs to a SendGrid EU regional subuser.
6Send e-mailsOptionalLeave it on. When off, no e-mail goes out to buyers.
  1. Click Connect. Vipter checks that the key has the Mail Send permission and verifies the sender's domain.

Step 4: register the delivery status webhook

Through the webhook, SendGrid tells Vipter when an e-mail is delivered, bounced or marked as spam. Without it, the history stays at Sent and invalid addresses keep getting e-mails.

  1. After saving, copy the URL from the Delivery status (delivered, bounced, spam) card, in the right-hand column.

  2. Paste the URL into Post URL.
  3. Under Actions to be posted, tick Delivered, Bounced, Dropped and Spam Reports.
  4. Leave the webhook enabled and save.

Step 5: test

  1. In Vipter, under Send test e-mail, check the address in Send to and click Send test e-mail.
  2. Open that address's inbox.

It worked if

You see the message Test e-mail sent to you@yourcompany.com., the status changes to Working, the e-mail arrives outside spam and, a few minutes later, the webhook card shows Last notice received on ….

Common problems

  • SendGrid: the API key has no "Mail Send" permission

The key was created without Mail Send access. Create another one with Mail Send allowed and paste it into Vipter.

  • The test fails with 401 or 403

The key is wrong, was deleted or belongs to another region. Check that the Region matches the account: EU subuser keys only work with European Union.

  • The test fails saying the sender is not verified

The Sender e-mail is on a domain SendGrid has not authenticated. Finish step 1 or use an address on the authenticated domain.

  • the API key has no Sender Authentication permission

The domain may be fine, but the key does not let Vipter check it. Give the key read access to Sender Authentication, or check the verification directly in SendGrid.

What to do next

  • Verify the sending domain and add a DMARC record.
  • Review which e-mails go out and the text of each one in GeneralSettingsE-mails.
