Connect Mailgun
Send your store's e-mails through a Mailgun sending domain, in the US or EU region, and get each message's delivery status in Vipter.
With Mailgun connected, the order confirmation, the PIX awaiting payment notice (PIX is Brazil's instant payment method) and the store's other e-mails go out through a sending domain in your Mailgun account, with your name. Before you start, it helps to read how transactional e-mail works.
Before you start
- A Mailgun account with a sending domain added and verified, such as
mg.yourdomain.com. - The account's region: US or EU. It shows in the dashboard address (
app.eu.mailgun.comfor EU accounts). - The Admin or Owner role in the Vipter project.
Step 1: check the sending domain in Mailgun
- In Mailgun, open the domain list and check that the sending domain is active (verified).
- If it is not, create in your DNS the records Mailgun shows for it (SPF, DKIM and the tracking ones) and run the verification in Mailgun.
Vipter's check only passes when Mailgun reports the domain as active. Until then, the connection is saved with the status Failing. What each record does is explained in verify the sending domain.
Step 2: create the API key
- In Mailgun, open the profile menu in the top right corner and choose API Security.
- Click Add new key, give it a description, such as
Vipter, choose the role and create the key. - Copy the key. Mailgun shows the key only once.

Use an account API key. A Domain Sending Key can only send: it does not let Vipter check the domain, and the check fails.
Keep the key safe
This key can send e-mails and change your Mailgun account. Paste it only into Vipter. If it leaks, delete the key in Mailgun, create another one and paste it into Vipter.
Step 3: connect in Vipter
- In the Vipter dashboard, open GeneralIntegrationsE-mailMailgun.
- Under Sender and credentials, fill in the numbered fields:

| # | Field | What to paste |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sender name | The name the buyer sees in the inbox, such as the store name. If blank, the project name is used. |
| 2 | Sender e-mail | An address on the sending domain (or one of its subdomains), such as contact@mg.yourdomain.com. With another domain, the domain card reports that the sender is not on the sending domain. |
| 3 | Reply-to | Where the buyer's replies go, such as your support e-mail. If blank, the project's support e-mail is used. |
| 4 | API key | The API key from step 2. Once saved, leave it blank to keep the current one. |
| 5 | Sending domain | The sending domain exactly as it appears in Mailgun, such as mg.yourdomain.com, without https:// or a slash. |
| 6 | Region | United States or European Union, the region where the Mailgun account was created. |
| 7 | Send e-mails | Leave it on. When off, no e-mail goes out to buyers. |
- Click Connect. Vipter looks up the domain in Mailgun with the key and region you entered.
Step 4: register the delivery status webhook
Through the webhook, Mailgun tells Vipter when an e-mail is delivered, bounced or marked as spam. Without it, the history stays at Sent and invalid addresses keep getting e-mails.
- After saving, copy the URL from the Delivery status (delivered, bounced, spam) card, in the right-hand column.

- In Mailgun, open SendSendingWebhooks and select the sending domain.
- Click Add webhook, paste the URL and tick the events Delivered, Permanent Failure, Temporary Failure and Complained.
- Click Create webhook.

Step 5: test
- In Vipter, under Send test e-mail, check the address in Send to and click Send test e-mail.
- Open that address's inbox.
It worked if
You see the message Test e-mail sent to you@yourcompany.com., the status changes to Working, the domain card shows Domain verified at the provider and, a few minutes later, the webhook card shows Last notice received on ….
Common problems
-
The check fails with
401and the hint "check the region: US or EU"The key is wrong or the Region is not the account's. Check the region and paste the key again.
-
Mailgun: domain state is "unverified"
The sending domain has not been verified in Mailgun yet. Finish step 1 and save again.
-
the sender is not on the configured sending domain
The Sender e-mail is not on the Sending domain. Use an address on the sending domain itself, such as
contact@mg.yourdomain.com. -
Enter a valid domain (e.g. smtp.yourdomain.com).
The Sending domain has
https://, a slash or a space. Enter only the domain.
What to do next
- Verify the sending domain and add a DMARC record.
- Review which e-mails go out and the text of each one in GeneralSettingsE-mails.
