Sales funnels
Group the order bumps and post-purchase offers in a funnel, build the checkout, the upsell pages and the thank-you page in the Studio, with models, themes and presets, attach the funnel to offers, packs and quick links, compare two versions in an A/B test, offer up to three options on a step, close with a final offer and turn on the dark theme.
The funnel is the set of extra offers that go with a sale: the order bumps, which the buyer ticks on the checkout and pays in the same charge, and the upsell and downsell steps, shown right after payment. Before, each offer had its own bumps and its own steps. Now they live in a funnel, and you say which funnel each offer, pack or quick link uses. The same funnel can serve several offers, and the whole store can use a single one.
If you already had order bumps or steps on an offer, they became a funnel named after that offer, already attached to it. Nothing changed for the buyer, and the payment links stay the same.
Each bump and each step can say when it shows (only on PIX, only above R$ 150, only to first-time buyers…), and the steps form paths: what the buyer sees after accepting differs from what they see after declining. See Display rules and Paths after the purchase on this page.
The funnel also decides how the checkout looks: the page model (Steps, Store or Clean), the colour and font theme, the trust blocks, the images, the texts, the fields asked, the payment methods, the upsell pages and the thank-you page. All of it is built in the Studio, a full-screen editor with the buyer's page live. See The Studio, Checkout appearance, Themes, Upsell appearance and Thank-you page. And when you don't know which version sells more, an A/B test shows two versions of the funnel to different audiences and measures which converts better. See A/B tests (experiments).
Before you start
- The Admin or Owner role in the Vipter project.
- To build bumps and steps, one-time offers to sell in them. See Create an offer.
The default funnel
Every store has a default funnel, created automatically, which shows first in the list with the name "Default". It applies to every offer, pack or quick link that hasn't chosen another funnel. A store that wants the same bumps and the same post-purchase offers on every sale only needs to build the default.
The default can't be archived or deleted, but you can rename it and, on the page of another active funnel, use Make default: the old one stays as an ordinary funnel, and everything that used the default switches to the new one right away.
Step 1: create a funnel
- Open CatalogFunnels. The list shows the default funnel, the active funnels, the drafts and, last, the archived ones.
- Click New funnel, give it a name of up to 80 characters, such as "October launch" or "3-jar kit", and save. The funnel page opens next.
The funnel starts active and empty: buyers who go through it buy only the main offer until you build the bumps and the steps. A store can have up to 50 funnels, not counting archived ones.
Step 2: build the order bumps and the steps
The Buyer's path card on the funnel page shows, in sequence, the checkout, the order bump boxes, the post-purchase steps and the thank-you page, with the last 30 days' numbers. Clicking the checkout or the thank-you page opens the Studio, where you build those two pages. Below are two cards:
- Order bumps: the boxes shown on the checkout, up to 5 per funnel. Click Add order bump and follow Order bump from step 2. Since the funnel can serve several offers, the list of what the box adds brings every one-time offer of the store. A box offering 1 unit of the very offer being sold doesn't show on that checkout; a pack of it does.
- One-click Upsell: the pages shown after payment, up to 6 per funnel, of which one buyer sees at most 3. Click Add step and follow One-click upsell and downsell from step 2. Preview opens each step as the buyer sees it, without charging anything.
Bumps only show on one-time offers
A subscription can use any funnel, but its checkout doesn't show the order bump boxes. The post-purchase steps show as usual.
Step 3: attach the funnel to an offer, a pack or a quick link
- Offer: open CatalogProducts, click the product and then the offer. The Funnel card has one selector for the offer and one for each of its packs. A pack set to Inherit from the offer follows the offer's, and an offer set to Project default follows the default.
- Quick link: on the link form, under More options, the Funnel field picks the link's post-purchase offers. Empty, the link uses the default. See Create a quick payment link.
- On the funnel page, the Where it is used card lists every offer, pack and quick link that points at it, with a link to each one's page.
The selectors show active funnels and drafts. Archived funnels don't show.
Which funnel the buyer sees
| The buyer opened | The funnel that applies |
|---|---|
A pack link (?pack=) | The pack's. No funnel on the pack, the offer's. No funnel on the offer, the default. |
| The offer link | The offer's. No funnel on the offer, the default. |
| A quick link | The link's. No funnel on the link, the default. |
A chosen funnel that is a draft or archived is skipped: the buyer sees the default. That way you can build a funnel at your own pace before activating it, and archive an old funnel without reviewing offer by offer.
Display rules
An order bump or a step can show to everyone or only when some conditions hold. In the bump or step dialog, under Show only when…, you build groups of conditions:
- Inside a group, every condition must hold at the same time ("paid with PIX and the order is above R$ 150").
- Across groups, one is enough ("…or it is this customer's first purchase").
- With no condition, it always shows. Up to 5 groups with up to 6 conditions each.
Examples of what you can use:
| You want | Condition |
|---|---|
| Only for PIX buyers | Payment method is PIX |
| Only on orders above R$ 150 | Order total greater than or equal to 150 (in the store currency; in other currencies Vipter converts at the day's rate) |
| Only for people who never bought from the store | First purchase is yes |
| Only for people who already bought a product | Already bought includes the product |
| Only for people who came from a campaign | Source, campaign or medium (UTM) is the campaign's |
| Only on mobile | Device is mobile |
| Only on weekends, on a date or at a time of day | Weekday, Period or Time, in the store's time zone |
| Only with a coupon, a pack, a seller, a country or a language | Coupon, Pack units, Seller, Country or Language |
| Only if another bump was ticked (or not) | Ticked order bump includes (or doesn't include) the other box |
Some things the checkout only learns later. The payment method, for instance, is only known once the buyer picks card or PIX on the payment step: a bump that depends on it doesn't show on the details step, even when its position is "Before continuing". The number of installments and the saved card are only known after payment, so they apply to post-purchase steps, not to bumps. When Vipter doesn't know the fact, the condition doesn't hold and the bump or step doesn't show.
If the buyer ticks a bump and then changes something the rule looked at (switches from PIX to card, removes the coupon), the box disappears and is unticked quietly, with no error.
Paths after the purchase
The steps of a funnel no longer form a queue: each step says where the buyer goes when they accept and when they decline, in the On accept, go to and On decline, go to fields. Each one points at another step of the same funnel or at the thank-you page. The first step is the one no other step points at.
- A step pointed at by an "accept" is an upsell; one pointed at only by "decline" is a downsell (a cheaper version for those who said no). The card shows each step's role, worked out from the paths.
- An inactive step, one whose rule doesn't hold for that buyer or one that should be skipped is passed through along the decline path, without showing and without counting in the numbers.
- Each step has a Time to decide, from 5 to 30 minutes: the page shows a real countdown and, at the end, the offer stops being valid.
- Let the buyer pick the pack shows 1 unit and each pack of the offer sold, all with the step's price rule, for the buyer to choose.
- Skip if already in the order (on by default) and Skip if already bought avoid offering what the buyer just took or already owns.
- A funnel has up to 6 steps and one buyer sees at most 3. The editor refuses a path that loops or is longer than that.
Example: offer the 6-jar kit to card buyers and a PIX kit to PIX buyers, with a 3-jar downsell for those who declined by card:
| Step | Show only when… | On accept | On decline |
|---|---|---|---|
| A · 6-jar kit | Payment method is card | E-book | B |
| B · 3 jars | Payment method is card | E-book | A′ |
| A′ · 6-jar kit on PIX | Payment method is PIX | E-book | E-book |
| E-book | (always) | Thank you | Thank you |
A PIX buyer enters A, the rule doesn't hold, passes through A and B along the decline path and sees A′. Note that B repeats A's rule: whoever passes through A because of the rule also passes through B. For two different audiences, chain the alternatives through decline, each with its own rule, and join the paths again at a common step.
A step with more than one option
A step can show, next to the offer it sells, up to 2 alternatives: other one-time offers of the store, or packs of them. The buyer sees up to three options side by side, like a "pick your plan", marks one and accepts; the charge follows the choice, on the same saved card or with a new PIX code.
Use it when the buyer's doubt is which version to take, not whether to take it: monthly or yearly, 3 or 6 jars, basic or complete. To offer something cheaper only to those who declined, keep using a downsell on the decline path.
- On the step card, open Alternatives and click add. Pick the offer (or one of its packs), the price rule of that alternative (offer price, percentage off or fixed price) and, if you want, a short name for the choice, such as "Yearly plan". Without a name, the product name is used.
- Each alternative has its own price rule; the step's rule applies to the main offer only. All of them show in the currency the buyer paid in.
- The step's main offer cannot be repeated as an alternative, and subscriptions are not allowed: one-time offers only.
- Let the buyer pick the pack applies to the main offer only. An alternative sells exactly what you chose for it (1 unit or the pack you picked).
- Skip if already in the order and Skip if already bought look at the step's main offer, not at the alternatives.
- It is still one step: accepting any option follows On accept, go to, declining follows On decline, go to, and the time to decide and the rules are the step's. In the funnel numbers and the reports, the step counts once; the chosen option shows on the order it creates, which belongs to the chosen offer.
If the offer of an alternative is archived, the alternative stops showing and the step goes on with the other options.
See the step by step in One-click upsell and downsell.
Upsell appearance
The pages of the post-purchase steps are also built in the Studio, on the Upsell tab of the top bar. With nothing configured, the step looks as it always did: a centred card with the offer, the price, the clock and the accept and decline buttons. Here you pick the page structure, switch on persuasion blocks and change the media and the texts, for the whole funnel or for a single step. The theme (colours, font and shapes) is the checkout's.
Step being edited and its own appearance
- Step being edited picks which step the preview shows, with a sample order; nothing is charged. A funnel without steps asks you to create one on the funnel page.
- The This step uses the funnel's appearance switch starts on: what you change in the panel applies to every step of the funnel. Switch it off to give this step its own model, blocks, media or texts: it gets a copy of the funnel's appearance and, from then on, what you change applies only to it, while the other steps keep following the funnel. Switching it back on makes the step follow the funnel again.
Upsell models
| Model | What it looks like | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Direct offer | The usual page, refined: a centred card with the notice, the headline, the clock, the media, the was/now price and the buttons. | A simple offer the buyer decides in seconds. |
| Sales page | A "step 2 of 3" bar at the top, a big video or image, the benefits beside the price card, a testimonial and a guarantee. On a phone, the accept button stays fixed at the bottom of the screen while the buyer reads. | An offer that needs an argument: a pricier or less familiar product. |
| Choice | The step's offer and its alternatives side by side, as cards, one with the "Most chosen" badge. Under Mark as most chosen you say which: the step's offer, an alternative or none. Without alternatives, the page falls back to the single card. | Plan upgrades, packs, "pick your kit". |
Switching the model keeps the blocks that are on, the media and the texts.
Upsell blocks
Each block switches on and off on its own:
- One-time offer notice: the line above the headline saying the offer is only valid now. On by default; the text changes under Upsell texts.
- Step indicator (2 of 3): the "Order confirmed → Special offer → Finish" bar that shows the buyer where they are. The Sales page uses it.
- Clock: the countdown of the step's Time to decide. On by default.
- Was/now price and savings: the full price crossed out and the savings badge, when the step's price rule gives a discount. On by default.
- Benefits: up to 6 short bullets, such as "Instant access" or "Free shipping on the kit".
- Testimonial: one testimonial with text, name and city.
- Guarantee: a title and a text, as on the checkout.
- Social proof: one line, such as "1,284 people already took this offer".
Media
Source picks what shows above the offer:
- Step's image or video (default): the step's own image or video, the media URL set on the step card or an MP4/WebM video of up to 50 MB you upload here with Upload video. Like the checkout images, the video is saved the moment it is uploaded, without going through Save.
- YouTube or Vimeo: paste into Video link the address of the video's page, as it shows in the browser, not the embed code. Vipter builds the player without tracking cookies.
- None: the page without media.
Aspect ratio (16:9, 4:3 or 1:1) sets the media frame, so the photo or video does not change size while loading.
Upsell texts
Per language, like the checkout Texts: Notice above the headline, Subheadline, Accept button text, Decline text and Note under the button. An empty text uses the step's text or Vipter's translation. Use the Preview language to check each one.
Decline
The decline Style: Discreet link (a small text under the accept button) or Outlined button (a second button, the size of the accept one). The decline is always visible: it cannot be hidden or delayed. A buyer who cannot find how to say no ends up clicking accept by mistake, and then come the refund request and the chargeback.
The preview shows the step with a sample order, charging nothing; Save writes the funnel's appearance and the steps' at once.
The Studio
The Studio is the full-screen editor where you build the funnel's pages: the checkout, the upsell pages and the thank-you page. It opens from the Buyer's path card on the funnel page: click the Checkout node to edit the checkout, or the Thank you node to edit the thank-you page; the upsell pages are on the Upsell tab of the top bar. The Vipter menu leaves the screen and the buyer's page takes the centre, exactly as the buyer will see it.
The top bar
- Back to funnel, on the left, with the funnel name next to it.
- Checkout, Upsell and Thank you: the page being edited. Switch between them without leaving the Studio.
- Desktop and Mobile: the preview size. On desktop, the page is drawn 1280 px wide and scaled down to fit the column; on mobile, it fills a real 390 px frame, the width of an ordinary phone, with no scaling.
- Preview language: Portuguese, English, Spanish and, if it is another one, the language of the store's country. Use it to check the Texts of each language.
- Reload the preview and Open in new tab, which opens the same page on its own in the browser.
- On the right, the Unsaved changes notice appears as soon as you change anything, next to the Discard and Save buttons.
The panel and the preview
On the left are the checkout categories (Model, Theme and colors, Typography and shapes…), described under Checkout appearance. One opens at a time: opening a category closes the previous one, so the panel stays short. On the upsell page, the panel starts with the step selector and goes on with the categories of Upsell appearance. On the thank-you page, the panel lists the page's versions, one per item, as in Thank-you page.
At the top of the checkout panel, the Find a setting box filters the categories by what you are looking for: type "background", "button" or "PIX" and only the categories with that setting remain; when one is left, it opens on its own. Clear the search to see them all again.
In the centre is the real page: the checkout of an offer attached to the funnel (or of the store's first active offer), or the thank-you page with a sample order. Everything you change in the panel shows in the preview at once, before saving: switch the model, pick another primary colour, turn on a testimonial and see the result. You can fill in the details and go through the checkout steps; the preview charges nothing and keeps nothing you typed. With no offer in the store, the Studio asks you to create one before showing the preview.
Saving
Save writes everything in the panel, from every category, at once. There is no draft and no publish step: what you saved applies right away to whoever opens the link of any offer, pack or quick link attached to the funnel. ⌘S on a Mac or Ctrl+S on Windows saves without taking your hands off the keyboard. Discard goes back to what was saved. Images and upsell videos are the exception: each one is saved the moment you pick or remove it, without going through Save. When you switch pages or leave the Studio with pending changes, it asks before discarding them.
Nothing you do in the Studio changes the payment links or the charge.
Duplicating the funnel
To try another model, another theme or another arrangement without touching the funnel that is selling, use Duplicate funnel in the ⋯ menu of the funnel page. The copy is born as a draft, with the same theme, the same checkout, upsell and thank-you appearance, the order bumps and the steps with their paths; nothing points at it until you attach it to an offer, a pack or a quick link. Build the copy in the Studio at your own pace and activate it when it is ready, or attach it to a test offer. To compare two versions with the same audience, prefer an A/B test, which splits the visitors inside a single funnel.
Checkout appearance
With the Checkout page selected, the Studio panel has nine categories. Together they build the checkout the buyer sees on every offer, pack or quick link attached to the funnel; the post-purchase steps and the thank-you page of the same sale use the same theme.
Model
The Model is the structure of the page. Switching the model applies its arrangement and keeps the blocks you turned on, your images and your texts.
| Model | What it looks like | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Steps | The usual checkout, in two columns: the order summary beside the form (left, right or folded into the header), details and then payment, or everything on one page. It is the model of every new funnel and the only one with adjustments. | Most stores, subscriptions and offers with a lot to explain. In two steps, the buyer leaves the e-mail before seeing the payment, which helps cart recovery. |
| Store | Online-store style (like Shopify): a single page in two full-height columns. On the left, the sections in sequence as plain headings (contact, delivery, payment), with the payment methods in an accordion, the chosen one open with its fields, and a single pay button at the end. On the right, the order summary in its own tinted column, with the product image, the coupon and the totals, plus the side image and the guarantee. On a phone, the summary becomes the bar "Show order summary · total", which unfolds on tap. Bumps placed "in the summary" live in that column; those placed "at payment" sit above the pay button. | Physical products with delivery and shipping, stores with several items. |
| Clean | Hubla/Kiwify style: one narrow card in the middle of the page, with the product line and the price (the full summary unfolds from "View summary"), the buyer's details, the payment methods as tabs with their fields, the order bump, the pay button and the badges. Guarantee, testimonials and side image sit below the card. No steps and no summary column. | Digital products, low ticket, mobile traffic. The less there is on screen, the faster the buyer pays. |
The three share everything else: theme, blocks, texts, images, fields, payment methods, bumps, rules and A/B tests. The model names are the same in every language.
Only Steps has adjustments. In the same category you choose where the Order summary sits (left, right or folded into the header) and the Steps: one page or details → payment. On Store and Clean the structure is fixed. The logo size and the store name live under Header.
The old Clean and Showcase models were arrangements of Steps: a funnel that used one of them looks exactly the same, now as Steps with the summary in the header or on the right.
Theme and colors
Theme of this funnel picks which theme the funnel uses; Project default follows the store's default theme. Themes are shared: one theme can serve several funnels, and what you change in this category and under Typography and shapes is written to the theme, not to the funnel. See Themes.
Below the selector are the Theme name, the presets and the colours. Everything beyond the two main colours is optional: a theme you already saved stays exactly the same until you touch those fields.
| Field | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Primary colour | Buttons, the border of focused fields and highlights. Empty, Vipter's blue applies. |
| Secondary colour | The end of the button gradient. Empty, Vipter darkens the primary. |
| Page background and Card background | The page colour and the card colour. Empty, Vipter's light greys apply. |
| Second background color | Closes a gradient from the Page background. Empty, the gradient ends in a shade only slightly darker than the background. |
| Background image and Image dimming | A photo behind the whole page, up to 1800 px on the long side and 400 KB after Vipter optimises it (above that, it is refused). The dimming, from 0 to 80%, lays a dark layer over the photo so the text stays readable. Like the other images, it is saved the moment you pick it. |
| Card border and Card shadow | The colour of the line around the cards and their shadow: None, Soft or Strong. |
| Colour scheme | Light (default), Dark or Automatic, which follows the buyer's device. See Dark theme. |
Each colour has a Use default button that empties it. The button text turns white or dark by itself, depending on the colour, so it stays readable.
Start from a preset applies a coherent set of colours, corners and fields over the current theme at once: Light, Dark, Vibrant or Minimal. The primary colour stays yours. Use it as a starting point and adjust whatever you want afterwards; nothing is written until Save.
This theme serves N funnels
When the chosen theme is used by more than one funnel, the category says how many: changing the colours here changes all of them. To touch only this funnel, click Duplicate for this funnel: Vipter creates a copy of the theme, with the same colours, font and shapes, and switches the funnel to the copy. The original theme and the other funnels stay as they were.
Typography and shapes
| Field | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Font | Inter (default), Manrope, Poppins, Roboto, Lato, Montserrat, Open Sans or Nunito, loaded from Google Fonts. |
| Corners | Sharp, soft (the current look) or round, on fields, cards and buttons. |
| Button | Solid with the primary, gradient from the primary to the secondary (the current look) or outline only. |
| Heading font | A second font, from the same list, for the headings only. Same as the text (default) uses the same one as the rest. |
| Card corners and Button corners | A radius of their own for the cards and for the pay button, when they should differ from the fields. Same as corners (default) follows the Corners field. |
| Heading color, Text color and Secondary text color | The colours of the headings, the body text and the supporting text (labels, captions and the fields' placeholder text). Empty, the neutrals of the scheme, light or dark, apply. |
Everything in this category is part of the theme too: it applies to every funnel that uses it.
Header
The Logo size (small, medium or large) and Show the store name next to the logo. The logo itself comes from Branding.
Fields
- E-mail, name, phone and document are always required: the payment provider needs the phone and the document to create the customer. The address is still asked when the offer ships.
- Custom field: one extra field per funnel, with the label you want ("How did you hear about us?", "Name for the dedication"), required or not. The answer, up to 200 characters, is stored on the order and shows in the public API with the order's other extra data.
The look of the fields lives here too, written to the theme like the colours:
| Field | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Field style | Filled (grey background, no border, the current look), Outlined (transparent background with a border) or Underline (only the bottom line). |
| Field height | Default or Compact. |
| Field background, Field border and Field text | The colours of each field. Empty, they follow the theme's style and scheme. |
| Focus color | The border and glow of the field being filled in. Empty, the primary colour applies. |
The card number, expiry and CVV fields, which live in the payment provider's secure area, follow these same settings.
Payment
Payment methods limits the checkout to card, to PIX or to both. With none ticked, the checkout offers everything your payment account allows. The field only restricts: ticking PIX in a store without PIX connected does not create the option.
Below are three settings of the pay button, written to the theme: Pay button color (empty, the button style, solid, gradient or outline, with the primary applies), Button text (the text colour; empty, Vipter picks white or dark by contrast) and Button size, Default or Large.
Blocks
Each block switches on and off by itself:
- Security badges: secure purchase, protected data, and the seal images you upload.
- Brands and accepted methods: the card brands and PIX accepted.
- Guarantee: a title and a text of up to 600 characters ("7 days to return"), with the guarantee seal image when there is one.
- Testimonials: up to 3, each with the text, the name and the city.
- Legal notice: a text of up to 600 characters below the pay button.
- Store footer: legal name, address and up to 4 links (policies, terms, contact).
- Discount countdown: see Coupon countdown.
The Vipter footer always shows and is not a block. See Branding.
Images
Every image is optional and works in every model: each one shows where it was uploaded. Upload PNG, JPG or WebP up to 5 MB; Vipter resizes to the size of the slot and saves as WebP. An image in the wrong proportion is not cropped, so prepare the artwork in the proportion shown.
| Image | Proportion and size | Where it shows | Models |
|---|---|---|---|
| Logo | Horizontal, up to 200×56 px | Top of the page. Comes from Branding, not from here; the Studio only picks the size, under Header. | All |
| Banner | 3:1, up to 1200×400 px | Strip at the top, above the form. | All |
| Guarantee seal | Square, up to 240×240 px | Next to the guarantee text; with the guarantee block off, it shows on its own. | All |
| Trust seals | 32 px tall, up to 4 images | Row of seals below the pay button, even with the security badges off. | All |
| Side image | 4:3, up to 600×450 px | Summary column, below the order; in Store, at the foot of the summary column; in Clean, below the card. | All |
To replace an image, pick another one in the same slot; to remove it, use Remove. Unlike the rest of the panel, each image is saved the moment you pick or remove it, without depending on Save.
Texts
Under Texts you replace, per language, a few phrases Vipter translates by itself: the headline at the top, the pay button text, the PIX note, the saved-card note and the thank-you page message. An empty text goes back to Vipter's translation. A text in "Portuguese" applies to every Portuguese-speaking buyer; a text in "Portuguese (Brazil)" applies only to pt-BR buyers and takes precedence over the "Portuguese" one. Use the Preview language in the top bar to see each language on the checkout.
Coupon countdown
Product decision: the checkout only shows real clocks. A discount countdown needs a real coupon and works in two ways:
- Coupon with an end date: every applied coupon that has an end date already shows the countdown to it, with nothing to set up.
- Window per buyer: in the Discount countdown block, type the code of one of the store's coupons and a time from 5 minutes to 24 hours. When the buyer applies that code, the countdown starts for them. When the time is up, the coupon stops applying in that checkout: the price goes back to full and, if they try to pay with the expired discount, the checkout asks them to review the order.
Without an applied coupon there is no countdown. A code the buyer did not type, or that does not exist in the store, shows nothing. To have the coupon applied on arrival, send the link with ?code=, as in Coupons › Share it with a link.
Themes
The Themes tab, under CatalogFunnels, lists the store's themes: the checkout's colours, font and shapes. The colours that used to live in Branding moved here: the store's default theme was born with them, so nothing changed on the checkout. The logo, the favicon and the titles stay in Branding.
Create and edit
Click New theme and give it a name of up to 80 characters. The theme starts as a copy of the default. A store can have up to 20 themes.
To edit, click the theme on the list. The Studio opens on the store's default funnel with the theme applied to the preview and a notice that you are editing the theme, not the funnel: the default funnel keeps its own theme. Work on Theme and colors, Typography and shapes and the theme settings under Fields and Payment watching the result on the checkout and click Save; the funnels using the theme change at once. The other categories of the panel show the actual default funnel, so only touch them if you mean to change the default funnel.
You can also edit a theme from any funnel that uses it, under the Studio's Theme and colors category. The difference is that there the selector switches the funnel's theme, and the shared-theme notice offers the duplication.
Default and usage
- Make default makes the theme apply to every funnel without a theme of its own. The old one keeps existing. The default cannot be deleted.
- The list shows how many funnels use each theme, and the Studio warns when the theme you are editing serves more than one. Deleting a theme sends those funnels back to the default.
- A theme applies on the checkout, the post-purchase steps and the thank-you page. The customer area and the e-mails keep the primary colour from Branding.
Dark theme
The theme's Colour scheme field has three values:
- Light: the usual look.
- Dark: background, cards, fields and text switch to Vipter's dark scale, always.
- Automatic: dark for buyers whose device is in dark mode, light for everyone else. The switch follows the buyer's phone or computer setting.
What is yours stays the same: the primary and secondary colours, the font, the corners and the button style do not change with the scheme. If you filled in Page background or Card background, those colours keep applying in dark too; only the empty fields switch to the dark greys. Leave both empty on a dark theme, or pick dark shades on purpose.
The card fields
Card number, expiry and CVV live inside the payment provider's secure area. They follow the theme's field colours and go dark with the Dark scheme; on Automatic, though, they stay light, because the secure area cannot see the buyer's device mode. For a checkout that is dark end to end, pick Dark.
The scheme applies on the checkout, the post-purchase steps and the thank-you page, like the rest of the theme. The Studio preview shows the chosen scheme at once, before saving.
Thank-you page
In the Studio, the Thank you page builds the page the buyer sees after paying and going through the post-purchase steps. Open it from the Thank you node of the Buyer's path card, or from the Thank you tab in the Studio's top bar. With nothing set, the page is the usual one, described in Thank-you page and success URL.
The panel lists the page's versions, each in an item that opens and closes, one at a time. The open version is the one the preview shows, marked Shown in the preview, over a sample paid order of the store's first offer. Add version creates a new one at the end of the list; the arrows change the order, which matters (see below), and the bin removes it. What you change shows in the preview at once; Save writes it.
Variants
A funnel can have up to 5 variants of the page, each with conditions under Show this version when…, the same as the display rules, using what is known after the payment: the payment method, the number of installments, whether the card was saved, the total, the coupon, the country, the language… Vipter evaluates the variants with conditions in the order they are listed and shows the first one that holds; if none holds, it shows the variant without conditions, which is the default. Without a default variant and with no condition holding, the page is the usual one.
Example: a "PIX" variant (payment method is PIX) explaining that access arrives by e-mail as soon as the bank confirms, and a default variant for card buyers, with the group link.
What a variant changes
- Title and Message: in place of the Branding title and the default payment-confirmed phrase. The thank-you message from Texts applies when the variant brings none of its own.
- Next steps: up to 3 lines with an icon (mail, delivery, download, calendar, phone, star, check) and a text, such as "Check your inbox", "Delivery within 7 days".
- Redirect: a URL and a time from 0 to 120 seconds. It replaces the success URL of the offer, the link and the store for whoever lands on the variant. With 0, the page only shows the continue button and does not redirect by itself. With files to download on the page, the automatic redirect stays off, as today.
- Show downloads, Show customer area and Show support hide those sections. Downloads remain in the customer area and in the e-mail.
- Final offer: a last invitation at the end of the page, described below.
Final offer on the thank-you page
The variant can end with an offer: a headline, a text and a button leading to another one-time offer of the store. It differs from the upsell and downsell steps: a step charges with one click on the saved card, within a time limit; the final offer opens a new checkout, at the buyer's pace, and the buyer fills it in and pays as in any purchase. Use it for what does not fit in one click: a pricier product, something that needs a shipping address, or an invitation for buyers who went through every step and said no.
In the variant's Final offer block:
- Offer: a one-time offer of the store.
- Quantity: optional. Filled in, the checkout opens on the pack with that number of units, at the pack price (the link carries
?pack=). Empty, it sells 1 unit. See Packs. - Coupon: optional. The code of an existing, active coupon of the store, applied as soon as the checkout opens (the link carries
?code=). Check in Coupons that it applies to the offer and, with a quantity, to packs. - Headline, Text and Button label: what the buyer reads. Empty, the page uses default texts.
A purchase through the final offer is a normal sale: its own order, with the funnel the opened offer uses, its order bumps, the usual pixels and e-mails. It does not show among the post-purchase offers of the original order nor in the funnel's upsell numbers.
What stays the same
The order summary (product, bumps, accepted post-purchase offers and total), the wait for the PIX confirmation, the rule that downloads only show in the browser that bought and the Vipter footer do not change from variant to variant.
A/B tests (experiments)
An experiment shows two or more versions of the same funnel to different buyers, at the same time, and counts how many paid in each one. It is the way to answer "does the Clean model sell more than Steps?", "does the checkout sell more without this bump?" or "does this green theme help?" with numbers, instead of changing everything and comparing with last month.
Version A is always the funnel as it is (the control). The other versions change something compared to it. Each visitor is drawn into one version the first time they open the checkout and stays in the same version on every page of that purchase, and on later visits from the same browser, for 90 days.
Before you start
- The funnel must be active and attached to at least one offer, pack or quick link with visits: an experiment without traffic decides nothing.
- Think about what you want to test before creating it: one change at a time gives a clear answer; several changes together only say "B was better", without saying why.
Create an experiment
- On the funnel page, open the Experiments tab and click New experiment. Give it a name that says what is being tested, such as "Clean vs Steps" or "Without the e-book bump".
- The experiment starts as a draft, with version A (the funnel, unchanged) and version B, blank, each with half of the visitors.
- Under Variants, open B and choose what it changes. It can be more than one thing, but remember: the less it changes, the clearer the result.
- To test a third idea, add C (up to 4 versions per experiment). To compare clearly, prefer two or three.
A funnel has one running experiment at a time. To start another, finish the current one by declaring a winner, or delete it after pausing.
What a variant can change
| The variant can | Example |
|---|---|
| Use another theme | B with the "Green promo" theme, A with the default theme. |
| Change the checkout appearance: model (and, on Steps, summary position and steps), enabled blocks, texts, fields, payment methods | B on the Clean model, A on Steps; B with testimonials on; B with the button "I want mine". |
| Hide order bumps | B without the e-book box, to learn whether it gets in the way of the main purchase. |
| Hide post-purchase steps | B without the downsell, to learn whether it pays off. |
Whatever the variant doesn't choose, it inherits from the funnel: changing the funnel while the experiment runs changes both versions. Images are always the funnel's. A variant does not change the offer, the price, the coupon or the thank-you page; to test prices, use two offers.
Weights
The weight is the share of visitors each version receives. Split evenly gives the same share to all; you can also type the weights by hand (Vipter adjusts them to add up to 100). A version with weight 0 receives nobody, but stays in the results.
For a quick test, leave them equal: that is what decides fastest. Use unequal weights only when the new version is risky and you prefer exposing it to fewer people, accepting a longer wait.
Changing the weights during the experiment applies to new visitors. Those already drawn stay where they were.
Start and pause
- Start begins splitting the visitors. It needs at least two versions with a weight above zero.
- Pause interrupts: every new visitor sees the funnel as it is (version A). Whoever was in the middle of a purchase finishes in the version they started in. The numbers are kept; Start resumes from where it stopped.
- A paused experiment still holds the funnel's slot. To free it without declaring a winner, delete it: the orders stay, but lose the version mark.
Read the results
The Results tab shows, for each version:
| Number | What it is |
|---|---|
| Visits | How many times the checkout was opened in that version. |
| Sessions | How many buyers got as far as filling in their details (started an order). |
| Paid and Conversion | How many orders were paid and the percentage over the sessions. This is the number that decides the test. |
| Revenue, Revenue per visit and Average order | How much came in, how much each visit yielded on average and the average value of paid orders. A version can convert less and yield more, if the average order is higher. |
| Bump rate and Upsell rate | Among the paid, how many took at least one order bump; among the steps shown, how many were accepted. Useful when the variant hides a bump or a step. |
| Chance of beating A | For each version that is not the control, the probability that it converts better than A, given what has been seen so far. See below. |
How to read "82% chance that B is better". Vipter doesn't say "B won" or "a tie": it says how much you can trust, today, that B converts more than A. 50% is a coin toss (the two look alike, or there are still few people). 82% is a good sign, but one time in five a result like that reverses with more visits. Above 95% is a strong result. Below 50%, B is losing.
The small-sample warning. While any version has fewer than 100 sessions, the results carry the warning "sample still too small". With few people, two or three extra purchases move the conversion by several points and the chance jumps from 30% to 80% overnight. The warning blocks nothing, it only reminds you that the number is still unstable.
Why not declare early. The first days of an experiment almost always show one version "winning" by chance. Declaring then means swapping the funnel for a version that may be worse and never finding out. Wait for the warning to go away, give the experiment at least one full week (weekends sell differently) and only then look at the chance. If, with enough sample, it stays near 50% for a long time, the versions tie: keep the simpler one.
Declare the winner
Once convinced, click Declare winner on the chosen version. From then on:
- The experiment finishes and every visitor starts seeing the winning version.
- If the winner is not A, its choices are written into the funnel: the theme, the checkout appearance, and the bumps it hid become paused and the steps inactive (not deleted; you can reactivate them any time). The funnel becomes the winning version.
- If the winner is A, nothing changes in the funnel; the experiment just finishes.
- The results stay on the tab, and the orders remain marked with the version that produced them in the reports.
You can declare even with the small-sample warning on screen: Vipter warns, but the decision is yours (sometimes one version is so much better, or time is so short, that finishing is worth it). A finished experiment can't be edited or reopened; create another one.
Limits
- One running (or paused) experiment per funnel; up to 4 versions per experiment.
- A version can only change the theme, the checkout appearance and hide bumps or steps. Offer, price, coupons, thank-you page and the steps' offers are the funnel's.
- Visitors without cookies (browsers in restricted mode, robots) always see version A and don't enter the count.
- The numbers per version are counted per session and per order; visits come from the count of checkout openings, which Vipter keeps for 90 days.
Test one thing at a time
To learn whether the Clean model sells more, B should change only the model. If B also swaps the theme and hides a bump, you'll know B was better, but not which of the three changes made the difference.
Draft, archived and deletion
On the funnel page, Activate, Move to draft and Archive change its status; Rename, Make default and Duplicate funnel (see Duplicating the funnel) sit next to them:
| Status | What happens |
|---|---|
| Active | The buyer sees its bumps and steps. |
| Draft | Out of the checkout while you build it. Whatever points at it sees the default. Still in the selectors. |
| Archived | Out of the checkout and out of the selectors. Whatever points at it sees the default. |
Delete removes the funnel's bumps, steps and attachments; the offers, packs and links that used it switch to the default. Orders already placed don't change and stay linked to the funnel in the reports.
The numbers on the list
Each funnel on the list shows how many bumps and steps it has, how many offers, packs and quick links point at it and the last 30 days:
- how many paid purchases went through the funnel and how many took at least one order bump, with the bump revenue;
- how many post-purchase steps were shown and accepted, with their revenue.
Amounts show per currency. To see bump by bump and step by step over any period, open the Order bump, upsell and downsell report in Reports: each row carries the funnel it belongs to.
Funnel numbers
On the funnel page, the Buyer's path card shows, on each part of the path, what buyers saw and did: how many times the checkout was opened (visits), how many reached the payment and how many paid; on each order bump, how many times the box was shown and ticked; on each post-purchase step, how many times it was shown, accepted, declined or expired without an answer; and how many saw the thank-you page. With a running experiment, you can see these numbers per version.
These numbers are daily counts, with no buyer data, and Vipter keeps only the last 90 days. Sales and revenue, on the other hand, stay forever in Reports.
It worked if
When you open the link of an offer attached to the funnel, the checkout shows the funnel's order bump boxes, and after payment the first step appears.
What doesn't change
- The order bump stays in the same charge and the same order as the main offer; the post-purchase step is still a new charge and a new order.
- The payment links of offers, packs and quick links don't change when you switch the funnel.
- Coupons, shipping and installments follow the rules in Order bump and One-click upsell and downsell.
Common problems
-
The checkout doesn't show the funnel's bumps
Check that the funnel is active, that the offer or pack points at it on the Funnel card and that the offer is one-time. A bump for a product with delivery only shows when the main offer already asks for an address.
-
The buyer went straight to the thank-you page
Check that the funnel that applies to that sale has some step with Active on and that the offer sold in the step isn't archived.
-
The funnel doesn't show in the offer's selector
It's archived. Change its status to active or draft on the funnel page.
-
A funnel can have up to 6 steps.
Delete or replace one of the steps, or create another funnel for the offers that need different paths.
-
The editor won't save the path
A path can't go back to a step already visited nor have more than 3 steps in a row. Point the end of each branch at the thank-you page or at a common step.
-
The bump only shows on the payment step
Its rule uses the payment method, which the checkout only knows once the buyer picks card or PIX. Remove that condition for the box to show earlier.
-
The checkout colour didn't change
Colours now live on the theme. Open the Studio from the funnel's Checkout node and, under Theme and colors, check which theme the funnel uses and change the colours there; if the theme serves other funnels, Duplicate for this funnel creates a copy just for it. Remember to click Save. Changing the colours in Branding no longer changes the checkout.
-
The coupon countdown doesn't show
The countdown only shows with an applied coupon: either the coupon has an end date, or its code is the one in the Coupon countdown block and the buyer typed it (or opened the link with
?code=). Check that the coupon exists and is active under CatalogCoupons. -
The buyer saw the usual checkout, not the chosen model
Check that the funnel is active and that the offer, pack or link points at it. A draft funnel falls back to the default, appearance included. To see it before activating, open the Studio: the preview in the centre is that funnel's checkout, or use Open in new tab.
-
My funnel was Clean or Showcase and now shows as Steps
Both were arrangements of Steps, and the buyer's checkout did not change. Today's Clean is a different model, a single card; pick it in the Studio if you want that look.
-
A store can have up to 50 funnels.
Archive or delete the funnels you no longer use: archived ones don't count toward the limit.
-
The alternative does not show on the step
Check that the alternative's offer is active and one-time, and that the chosen pack still exists. An alternative equal to the step's main offer is ignored on save.
-
The final offer button opened the checkout instead of charging the card
That is how it works: the final offer opens a new checkout of the offer. To charge with one click, use a post-purchase step.
-
I changed it in the Studio, but the buyer doesn't see it
The preview shows the changes before they are written. Check that the Unsaved changes notice went away after you clicked Save; only images are saved on their own. If the Studio was opened from the Themes tab, what you saved was the theme, and the funnel keeps its own theme.
-
The checkout went dark, but the card fields are still white
It happens on the Automatic scheme: the provider's secure area, where card number, expiry and CVV live, does not follow the buyer's device mode. Pick the Dark scheme on the theme, or fill in Field background, Field border and Field text under Fields, which apply inside it too.
-
I applied a preset and lost my colours
The preset replaces the background, cards, fields and corners, but keeps the primary colour. If you have not saved yet, Discard goes back to the saved theme; if you have, redo the colours and save again.
-
I uploaded a video and it does not show on the step
In the Studio, on the Upsell tab, check that the Source of the Media category is Step's image or video: that is what shows the step's file (the URL on the step card or the MP4/WebM uploaded there, up to 50 MB). A YouTube or Vimeo video needs the matching source and the link of the video's page, not the embed code. If the step has its own appearance, a change made on the funnel does not reach it.
-
I changed the funnel's upsell and one step stayed the same
That step has its own appearance: the This step uses the funnel's appearance switch is off on it. Select it under Step being edited and switch it on for the step to follow the funnel again, or adjust it right there.
-
The experiment won't start
It needs at least two versions with a weight above zero, and the funnel can't have another experiment running or paused. Declare the previous one's winner, or pause and delete it.
-
The chance of beating A sits at 50% and won't move
Either the versions convert the same, or there are still few sessions (see the sample warning). Wait for the warning to go away; if it stays near 50%, the versions tie: keep the simpler one.
What to do next
- Build the checkout boxes with Order bump.
- Build the post-purchase paths with One-click upsell and downsell and their pages under Upsell appearance.
- Put the logo, the favicon and the titles in Branding; colours live in Themes.
- Test the store with a purchase through the funnel, from the checkout to the thank-you page.
